Not a 'math person'? You may be better at learning to code than you think

Want to learn to code? Put down the math book. Practice those communication skills instead. New research from the University of Washington finds that a natural aptitude for learning languages is a stronger predictor of learning to program than basic math knowledge, or numeracy. That's because writing code also involves learning a second language, an ability to learn that language's vocabulary and grammar, and how they work together to communicate ideas and intentions. Other cognitive functions tied to both areas, such as problem solving and the use of working memory, also play key roles.

전국 1,058명을 대상으로 광화문 현판 문자 도안에 대한 선호도를 물어본 결과, 10명 중 4명은 ‘한국을 대표하는 곳이니 한글 현판이 좋다’(40.6%)라는 응답을 꼽아 가장 많이 선호하는 것으로 나타남. 이어 ‘원형 복원 차원에서 한자 현판이 좋다’(29.7%), ‘한글 현판과 한자 현판을 앞뒤로 다는 게 좋다’(20.2%) 순으로 조사됨. ‘잘 모름’은 9.5%. 한글 현판 선호는 60.8%.

문화체육관광부(장관 박양우, 이하 문체부)와 국립국어원(원장 소강춘, 이하 국어원)은 '팬데믹'과 '에피데믹'을 대체할 쉬운 우리말로 '(감염병) 세계적 유행'과 '(감염병) 유행'을 선정했다. 최근 코로나19로 감염병의 급속한 확산 현상을 나타내는 용어들 ▲전 세계적으로 감염병이 크게 유행하는 현상을 가리키는 '팬데믹'과 ▲ 많은 사람 사이에서 감염병이 빠르게 유행하는 현상을 나타내는 '에피데믹' 등이 자주 사용되고 있다.
