정부가 8월 17일을 임시공휴일로 지정했다는 기사에 달린 댓글 때문에 뜬금없는 ‘사흘’ 논란이 벌어졌다. ‘사흘’을 3일이 아니라 4일로 알고 있었던 네티즌들이 예상보다 많았던 탓인지 ‘사흘’은 실시간 검색어 1위까지 오르기도 했다. 각종 소셜미디어(SNS)와 인터넷 커뮤니티 사이트에서는 ‘사흘 논란’을 계기로 젊은 세대의 기초 어휘 이해가 부족하며 문해력이 떨어지고 있다는 주장이 나올 정도였다. 이에 반해 비교적 연령이 높은 세대에서 문해력이 낮게 나왔다는 세대 비교 자료까지 나오면서 문해력 논란은 더욱 심화됐다.
